What's Your Soul Worth?
By Lonny R. Bower (LRB) 1 September, 2006
How much is your life worth? How much is your soul worth? These may sound like strange questions, but consider them for a moment if you will. In our world today there are more people who struggle with issues of self worth than perhaps at any other time during history. Sadly, this is especially true among our youth to include young adults, however it is not limited to them alone. Depression and feelings of worthlessness abound in our society, but why? Well for the answer we must turn to the tested and tried word of God. The Apostle Paul told us in Ephesians 6:12 that we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places (LRB version). Jesus said in Matthew 24:12 that in the last days because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most would grow cold (LRB version). Therefore, because of the increase in wickedness of every sort peoples love is growing cold and the evil spiritual forces are causing havoc among those who are not serving God. This leads to an empty feeling, a feeing of having no worth to those who do not know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The fact is we were created to worship and serve God and if we are not doing that daily, not only with our mouths, but with our lives too, then we will succumb to the spiritual wickedness and end up miserable where we will continually experience feelings of emptiness and hopelessness. The Good news is however, is that we can choose to overcome by turning to Jesus. Revisit my first two questions again – is one persons life or soul more valuable then the next? The answer of course is a resounding NO! John 3:16 says God so loved the world (that’s all of us) that He gave His only Son so that no one would perish but whoever believes on Him will have eternal life. So then we are all worth the same, each of our lives are so valuable to God that He paid for us with His Son and the scripture further says in 2 Peter 3:9 that He is not willing that anyone perish but that all come to repentance. He really means all – He loves us unconditionally! So, don’t give in to the lies of the devil (John 8:44) – simply believe God turn to Him and confess Jesus as your Lord and savior and experience the peace that surpasses all understanding. Be encouraged God values you so much He gave His Son for you – that’s priceless!
